19 maart 300 and other shows300 I went to watch 300 last Saturday together with Kian Siong, Yong Siah, Zhenpan and Isaac. It was truly a great epic movie with great cast and effects. Based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is a ferocious account of The Battle of Thermoplyae in which King Leonidas (Gerald Butler) and 300 spartans fought to death against King Xerxes 1 (Rodrigo Santoro) and his massive Persian army of 1 million. Greece was thus united, with the sacrifice of the 300 Spartans, against the Persian army. While the Spartans were fighting at the Hot Gates, King Leonidas' wife Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey) was rallying support from the council and countrymen, who felt that Leonidas was bringing war upon them, and cared nothing about democracy. They were finally united when Leonidas sent back the only Spartan from the field, Dilios (David Wenham) to narrate the story of the 300 Spartans to everyone in Greece, with a message to "Remember Us". The ending was of a massive rush of 40 000 soldiers (10 000 Spartans and 30 000 greek soldiers), led by Dilios "to victory". This is depicted as The Battle of Plataea. The invasion by King Xerxes was a difficult one. 300 Spartans and 700 Arcadians held them off for more than 3 days in the Hot Gates and even defeated his elite force named The Immortals. The Spartans were only defeated when a deformed Spartan outcast named Ephialtes betrayed them by telling King Xerxes about a secret pass which could lead to the back of the Hot Gates. Ephialtes had wanted to honour and redeem his father's name by joining Leonidas' troops but was rejected as he could not wield a shield properly. Enraged, he decides to betray the Spartans in exchange for women, money, power and a "uniform" given by King Xerxes (who calls himself a God King and is very generous). I prefer to think of him as the gayish king.. lol... Anway, this movie is a must watch and as Isaac puts it: "my head is still filled with memories of 300, the chant, the rant and the sounds of swords". Watch it if you liked Lord of the Rings. I certainly think this is the best epic ever since LOTR. 4 and half out of 5 stars.
Shinobi: Heart Under Blade This movie is about the conflict between two ninja clans and the love that was never meant to be for the leaders of both clans. This show stars Nakama Yukie (she is chio man!), Joe Odagiri and Erika Sawajiri (you all should already know who she is by now). The plot is kinda boring and I also find not much worth in giving it a decent review except for the fact that the moves of the ninjas are quite cool and the females in the movie are quite hot. If you want to know more about it, go here. I would recommend you do not waste your time on this movie and I give it at most 2 and a half out of 5 stars. Heard that the anime is much better and will check it out soon.
Ghost Hunt (anime) Was recommended to this anime by Isaac and boy, is it addictive. This anime follows the adventure of Kazuya Shibuya, director of Shibuya Psychic Research (SPR) who meets up with a high school student, Mai Taniyama, a first year high school student. Some incidents happen in a school which requires the expertise of Shibuya and because Mai damaged one of his expensive cameras, she is asked to work for him in order to repay the debt. Thus starts a journey into the world of the supernatural and along the way they have other mediums and psychics to help in the cases. Some cases are uber scary lar... such as the "Doll House" (dolls oways look scary to me) and "Blood soaked maze" in which horrific incidents take place in a house which models after the Mystery House of Winchester in real life. You can learn some interesting things such as information on asian dark arts and spells that people use as it presents the supernatural in a rather scientific way. 3 and a half out of 5 stars.
Install This movie stars Aya Ueto as a bored school girl who finds that her life is meaningless. She meets up with a boy who is actually helping someone run a porno website (he is only 10 years old). She finds it interesting and joins him in the world of cyber sex. Totally stupid story. Actually, I do not know why am I even blogging about this. Oh I know now. It is to deter everyone from watching it because it really wastes your time with a stupid plot and dragging scenes. Stupid music also. 1 star out of 5 (you know, perhaps its even a zero). 08 maart Attention PleaseSorry for the lack of updates. Not that I am really busy but just can't seem to get in the mood of blogging. Well the title above is not to get your attention but a japanese dorama that I finished watching 2 weeks ago. Titled "Attention Please", this show stars Aya Ueto as Misaki Yoko. She starts off as a rock star wanna-be, but when her crush tells her that he wishes to see her in a uniform one day, Misaki decides to apply for the position of Cabin Attendant (we call them air stewardesses here, apparently, Japan no longer uses the term stewardess). To the surprise of Misaki, she actually got the position and looks forward to it eagerly. However, it is an uphill task for her as she was brought up in the company of boys and behaves like one. As fate would have it, her crush found a girlfriend in Tokyo, but she continued with the training of a cabin attendant. Misaki is considered the "burden" of the class as she is a slow learner and has mannerisms unbecoming of a cabin attendant. However, her strong personality and character prevents her from quitting. With the help of her friends, she is able to overcome the odds and finally becomes a cabin attendant. And by the way this show stars Nishikido Ryo as well (he is Asou Haruto in One Litre of Tears). The interesting part about this show is that a lot is shown on the training of cabin attendants and the high standards of service they provide, especially in the culture of Japan. Quite a realistic show and I truly enjoyed it as each episode shows how Misaki overcome her obstacles and comes out of it stronger than before. Although not as good as My Boss, My Hero, this show is worth watching. 3.5 out of 5 stars. Well I am so going to ORD in 2 months plus time. Well now it comes to this phase where I have to face a major change in my life again. What kind of job should I look for? What am I cut out for? Seriously, I myself do not know. Contrary to popular belief from friends, I am not such an outstanding person. I am actually a slow learner, believe it or not. But once I get the hang of things and am confident, I can usually perform very well in my job. Well with this fast changing society, is there any room for time to learn? How well will I do for my future. More importantly, WHO GOT JOBS TO RECOMMEND ME???!!! |
